As one part, OpenMoko inc. develops an open Linux based platform for mobile phones - the OpenMoko Framework, based on OpenEmbedded. On the hardware side OpenMoko inc. created a mobile phone, based on components with open specifications.

After releasing the first model Neo1973 in 2007, OpenMoko inc. now releases the FreeRunner, the open Linux phone for everybody.

Finally, the FreeRunner is available for developers and Linux-enthusiasts. The software is still under development, so actually it is not a device ready for end users and daily use.
